Application of Coil System in Treatment of Intracranial Aneurysm

There are two key steps for GDC embolization of intracranial aneurysms. The first is to accurately place the microcatheter and fix it in the aneurysm cavity, and the second is to select the appropriate type and size of the microcoil.
For the first step, the following three aspects need to be completed:
(1) Since the microcatheter is soft, it must rely on the effective support of the guiding catheter. Therefore, in order to prevent excessive twisting of the microcatheter in the blood vessel, the guiding catheter should be inserted to the base of the skull.
(2) According to the angle formed by the aneurysm and the parent artery and the distance from the center of the aneurysm cavity to the side wall of the parent artery, the tip of the microcatheter was molded into different shapes.
(3) With the cooperation of the microguide wire, the microcatheter is sent into the aneurysm cavity through the opening of the aneurysm, and the end of the microcatheter is kept at 1/3 to 1/2 of the neck of the aneurysm. Smaller aneurysms can be placed on the aneurysm Neck, so that the resistance is small and conducive to the winding of the spring coil. In order to make the embolization process go smoothly, it is very important to choose a suitable microcoil. The GDC embolization system has a variety of microcoils to choose from. There are two commonly used models, GDC-10 and GDC-18, and each model is divided into 3 types. Specifications, namely single-diameter type, double-diameter type (2-D) and three-dimensional type (3-D), of which single-diameter type and double-diameter type are divided into standard type and soft type.
